Food Safety Helpline: your guide to the food quality check-up
The Food Safety and Standards Act was enacted in 2006, but those in the food industry are still unsure about its application in their day-to-day operations. Many who are aware of the Act occasionally have questions about food regulations and FSSAI enforcement provisions and don't know where to go for accurate information. There is still a segment of the foodservice the industry that is still unaware that they need a license to operate.
FoodSafetyHelpline.com has published over 1500 articles
and answered thousands of questions since 2013, and we are now excited to
extend our scope and support to many more food businesses. This online platform
was created with the sole purpose of providing a useful and relevant resource
for the food industry. The parent company, Auriga Research Limited, supported
the small amount of money needed to get the website up and running.
Food
Safety Helpline was founded in 2013 to help food
businesses achieve their goal of self-regulation and enforcement by
disseminating improvements in a concise and easy-to-understand format and
answering questions with the help of experts in the sector.
The Role of FSSAI in Maintaining Food Safety
Large and small food companies, street food vendors,
other regulators, consumer associations, and even international regulatory and
standards bodies including ISO and FAO have been actively working with FSSAI.This
has aided in the rapid evolution of rules and regulations to ensure the
availability of healthy and nutritious food for everyone, while keeping all
stakeholders' interests in mind and ensuring compliance with global
regulations.
The food market is expanding at an unprecedented rate,
which means that FSSAI enforcement and food safety are two critical
considerations that cannot be overstated.FSSAI has issued over 500,00,000
licenses and over 20,00,000 registration certificates, according to data
available from 2014. Chairman of Arbro Pharma, Mr. Vijay Kumar Arora, says:
“There are approximately 40 lakh food business operators which include: food manufacturers, food processors, importers, restaurateurs, wholesaler, retailers, marketers, etc. who still need to come under the purview of the FSS Act, 2006.” Since the food industry is extremely diversified where traditional foods stand back-to-back with packaged and ready-to-eat foods. Nutraceuticals, health, and dietary supplements, functional foods are all part of the industry.
Dr. Saurabh Arora, Founder FoodSafetyHelpline.Com adds that “there was a general consensus that Food
Safety Helpline could be used as a tool to spread awareness
about food safety regulations and food hygiene to this diverse audience. Food
hygiene is a much-overlooked aspect of the food business in India on the streets as
well as inside restaurants.”
